Honor To Our Veterans

"Honor to the soldier and sailor everywhere, who bravely bears our country's cause. Honor, also, to the citizen who cares for our brothers and sisters in the field and best serves the same cause."

-Abraham Lincoln

In 1960, The High Falls Civic Association honored the brave service men and women of our community by dedicating the High Falls Veterans' Memorial on the grounds of the Depuy House. The memorial, located at the corner of Route 213 and Second Street in the center of The Center of The Universe, consists of a large, 5-foot tall boulder with a copper tablet recessed into the face of the stone. The tablet reads:

"To Honor the young men of this community who by their patriotism and loyalty served God and country in the wars of our nation. This tablet is placed here by the High Falls Civic Association. 1960"

Now, 60 years after that initial dedication, the current officers of the HFCA, after discussions with the principals at the D & H Canal Museum [the current owners of the Depuy House property], agreed to create and maintain an attractive, seasonal, garden around the High Falls Veterans' Memorial to honor and show appreciation for the sacrifices made by the brave veterans of our community.

As Memorial Day approaches on Monday May 25, 2020, the HFCA encourages you to stop at the High Falls Veterans' Memorial as you stroll through our lovely hamlet and reflect on the selfless men and women of our armed forces who gave the greatest of sacrifices for our country.
