5 Tips To Successfully Work From Home
The High Falls Civic Association recognizes the challenges presented to members of our community who are now faced with the new normal of working from home due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Listed below are 5 tips to successfully work from home considering the many obstacles presented by Covid-19:
1. Create a Dedicated Workspace
Create a dedicated workspace in your home that is quiet, free from distractions and where your work will be successfully completed. Rather than setting up shop on your dining room table and having to clear it for each meal – or worse, eating around your computer, – take the time to actually create a workspace somewhere in your home that can be used each day without the need for setting up/taking down; a workspace in your home to “go to” each workday to get work done.
2. Create A Ritual That Starts Your Workday
You may no longer be spending time getting your mindset ready for your job by commuting to work. Create a new ritual to get ready for the workday. Take a walk. Go for a jog. Review your child’s daily learning plan. Watch or read a news outlet to catch up on current events. Do something to start your workday to get your mindset ready for the workday.
3. Be Dependable
Promptly answer all requests for information. Perform all tasks with the same professionalism that you would if working at your physical job location. Maintain a daily log of work to complete/ completed. Although we are a world of internet/email/text, do not forget that work can also be accomplished through a simple telephone call.
4. Plan Your Next Workday
Close out your work-from-home workday by creating a list of tasks you plan to work on the next workday. This winds down your workday, lets you assess your progress and allows you to set the stage for tomorrow.
5. Stay Informed. Stay Connected. Stay Healthy.
Just as you create a ritual that starts your workday, why not create a ritual to end your workday? Review current events on Covid-19. Stay connected with friends and loved ones while adhering to social distancing and other restrictions on mobility (ie. have a virtual happy hour with friends, create a diary or journal). Start an activity to end your workday that helps you stay connected with loved ones while staying healthy.
You can do this!
